First blog post

My intentions for this blog are to bring about questions, concerns, shared stories, research, and ideas, we as a society want to share as part of the social movement against heroin.

I chose to focus on heroin because it has become the “drug of choice.” In the past year, 14 heroin related deaths and 29 heroin related injuries have been reported in the Northern Shenandoah Valley; 20 of these heroin related incidents happened within the Winchester and Frederick County, Virginia area. The Virginia Department of health is estimating 380 fatal heroin overdoses. By 2017, the Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Counsel hopes to see a decrease in heroin related overdoses, infants exposed to substances, intervention between children and their caregivers, and crimes associated with addiction.
